Panch Badri – The five Badri’s are five temples situated at different places where Lord Vishnu worshipped under five different forms and names in Uttarakhand. As travelers visit these Panch Badri’s it is glorified in five different forms. It is believed that Lord Vishnu mediated all these places in this Alaknanda River valley. These five Badri are Vishal Badri, Adi Badri, Bhavishya Badri, Vridha Badri, and Yogdhyan Badri.

1. Badrinath Temple (Vishal Badri)
Altitude: 3,415 meters (11,204 feet).
Location: It is in the Garhwal hills, on the banks of the River Alaknanda, in Chamoli district of state Uttarakhand in India.
Shri Badrinath Ji also called Vishal Badri is the largest and most popular among the five Badris. Badrinath Ji is one of the ‘Four Dhams’ of India. Situated in a beautiful valley of Garhwal Himalayas at the confluence of the Rishi Ganga and Alaknanda rivers. Guarded between the Nar and Narayana mountain ranges. The epic of Mahabharata was composed and written nearby this place. Mana Village and Vasudhara Falls are very fascinating destinations nearby Badrinath Ji.

2. Bhavishya Badri Temple
Altitude: 2,744 mts.
Location: It is situated at Tapovan just 19 km. from Joshimath in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand in Garhwal Himalayas, of India.
The Bhavishya Badri (Future Badri) is located at 2,744 mts. amidst the thick forests surrounding Tapovan. According to a divination, when Nar & Narayan mountain range will meet each other and Badrinath would not be accessible by devotees, then worship of Lord Badrinath would be performed here. Whatever happens, Bhavishya Badri is popular even now. Enshrined here is the lion-headed image of Narsingh. Visitors pass the serene Tapovan a place known for its hot water springs en route to the banks of the Dhauliganga.

Location: is located at Pandukeshwar in Garhwal reign of Himalayas falls in Chamoli District of Uttarakhand state of India.
Yog Dhyan Badri is located at Pandukeshwar, named after the Pandavas King. According to legend, The Pandavas, after the victory of the Mahabharata war against the Kauravas, were emotionally scarred, came to the Himalayas. And it was here that they handed over their capital, Hastinapur, to Raja Parikshit and performed penance here before seeking out the highway to heaven. The importance of the Badri is immense and the sanctum has an idol of the Lord Vishnu in a meditative posture. It is the place where Lord Hanuman mat with Beema one of five Pandavas.

4. Vridh Badri Temple
Altitude: 1,380 mts
Location: The temple is situated at Animath 8 km short of Joshimath in the direction of Pipalkoti in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.
The idol of Badrinath carved by the divine Vishwakarma was enshrined and worshipped here. It is said that when mankind entered the age of Kaliyuga, Vishnu chose to remove himself from the temple.
Later the image was found by Adi Shankaracharya at Naradkund, and restored, at Animath. While Badrinath closes during winter, Vridha Badri remains open throughout the year.

5. Adi Badri Temple
Altitude: 3,133 m.

Adi Badri is a group of 16 temples enroute to Ranikhet from Karnaprayag. The main temple is dedicated to Narayan and has a raised platform in the pyramidal form. Badri temples is an ancient shrine dedicated to Vishnu and is one among a chain of 16 small temples were built during the late Gupta period (5th century to 8th century). Within the temple, a black stone idol is installed. It is believed that these temples, dating to the Gupta age, were sanctioned by Adi Shankaracharya.
